Mike LaFountaine

Teacher/KHS Activities Director

Hello! My name is Mike LaFountaine, and I'm thrilled this to say this is my 20th year teaching. I grew up in Helena, MT the oldest of three boys. I was a laborer for 8 years working the graveyard shift at ASARCO Inc. a lead smelter in East Helena. I was asked to coach a basketball team for Helena Youth Basketball Association. I found my calling in life coaching and teaching sports. I coached junior high volleyball, track and field at Helena Middle School. I coached three years as the Freshman boys basketball coach and a varsity assistant. I met a girl through some coaching friends and decided she was the one. At the time she took a job at Kootenai Jr.Sr. High School in Harrison, ID. I proposed to her in her classroom on Valentines day. I finished my schooling at North Idaho College and graduated from the University of Idaho in 1999. I was hired at Kootenai to teach junior high and Head Coach Boys Basketball. After 8 years coaching boys, I decided to switch to girls for 8 more years. Fall of 2017, I was hired as Activities Director. I really enjoy working with sports, coaches and athletes.
