Next week the JROTC cadets will host a mini camp for 8th graders moving up to the high school. This is for any soon to be freshman in the Silver Valley (Kellogg, Wallace, Mullan, Christian Academy, homeschool/online etc.). Purpose of the camp is to teach the kids some leadership and team building skills. This does not obligate them to join JROTC next school year, but it will give them an idea of what the class is like.

Dear Kellogg School District Patrons and Staff,

We are writing to express our deepest gratitude to the entire KSD community. Last night, our two-year, $7 million replacement supplemental levy passed with 66.17% of the vote (1596 votes in favor to 816 against).

This result comes six months after our levy fell short in November, an outcome that forced our district to face the incredibly difficult reality of planning for deep cuts to our staff, sports, and academic programs.

As Board Chair Alexa Griffin shared following the results: “The relief, joy, and appreciation felt by me and probably many in the district is not dramatic or exaggerated. The employees, students, and supporters know how much this levy means to our district. We can now plan our next school year with confidence and know we are doing everything in our power to give the kids the best experience and education we can. Many people put in hard work to advocate and educate for the levy, and no amount of gratitude will ever be enough.”

When this levy takes effect this July, it will secure the baseline funding needed to keep our schools safe and staffed for the next two school years. The work continues at the district level to identify cost-saving measures that allow for the best use of our supplemental levy dollars.

To the volunteers who spent their evenings educating neighbors, the staff who kept their focus on our students during months of uncertainty, and the voters who made their voices heard at the polls, thank you. You chose to invest directly in the future of our kids, and we are incredibly honored to serve this community.

With immense gratitude,
The Kellogg School District Board of Trustees and Administration

Overcoming the Odds: KHS Senior Earns Prestigious State Scholarship

Kellogg High School is proud to announce that Deztiny Raiha has been awarded the Idaho Governor’s Cup Scholarship. This highly competitive honor is granted to only 10 students across the state of Idaho each year, providing $3,000 annually for her post-secondary education.

Deztiny's journey is a testament to perseverance. While navigating the hurdles often faced by at-risk students, she maintained a dedicated focus on her academics. She will be finishing her high school career with a 3.2 GPA and then pursuing Career and Technical Education (CTE) opportunities, as she has already enrolled in the Welding program at North Idaho College for the Fall 2026 semester.

Please join us in congratulating Deztiny on her incredible journey and bright future!

It takes a village, and our district has the best one around. When the 3A State Softball Tournament was left scrambling due to flooded fields in North Idaho, Aaron Miller and our maintenance crew, along with an army of Kellogg volunteers, turned things around in record time to host the games.
Please take a moment to read this letter of appreciation from Scott Miller. Our community's teamwork and school spirit were on full display!

Dear Kellogg, This past weekend I had the honor of being the co-Tournament Manager, along with Dakota Wickard, St. Maries Athletic Director, of the 3A State Softball Tournament. We agreed to the position when Catey Walton of Timberlake was unable to. We felt it was important to keep the state tournament here in North Idaho even though we knew that overseeing a tournament in Timberlake and Lakeland would be difficult given our proximity to the fields. On Thursday morning of May 14, the opening day of the tournament, I arrived at Lakeland High School at 6:30 am to see a field that was not playable. There was water from 1st Base all the way to 2nd Base, probably 2 inches deep in the center. There was another puddle from 2nd Base to three quarters of the way to 3rd Base. To top it off, there were two additional puddles between 3rd Base and the pitching mound. Quite simply, there was no way the field would be playable. Dakota, Julie Hammonds and I began putting together Plan B, which was to move the games at Lakeland to Sandpoint. At the same time, we worked with the Lakeland Administration and their maintenance crew to begin the process of getting the water off the field. Plan B fell through at approximately 9:30 am when it was discovered that because the field at Sandpoint was turf, cleats could not be used, which affected all the teams. Plan C was Worley, but with it being a turf field, same result. We called all the local Park and Rec Departments in Post Falls, Coeur d’Alene and Rathdrum and were told that their fields were already in use. I then recommended we go to Kellogg. I knew we had rain but our field drains well and after talking with Aaron Miller, our Head of Maintenance, I knew we could pull it off. At 11 am, Julie signed off on Kellogg and I called Aaron to get our field ready and all the other necessary phone calls to get volunteers, workers and a plan in place to host 2 games starting at 3:00 pm. After working at the Lakeland field until 12:45 pm to give us a chance to be able to use that field on Friday, I headed to Kellogg and called our school to get some tables and chair set out so that I could just grab them and head to the field. By 1:30 pm I was at the field setting up for the games. Aaron and his Maintenance Crew had the field looking beautiful. Our Maintenance Crew is simply the best in the state. Aaron and his people got the Lakeland Field playable on Friday after getting our field set up and was on call the whole weekend. I worried whether we would have enough people to cover the game and funnel the fans through the front as with this being an IHSAA State event everyone had to have tickets. I should have known better. Kellogg citizens, business leaders, KHS students, teachers and administrators all jumped in immediately, just wanting to know from me what was needed and how they could help. Our District Office administration, from Lance Pearson, our Superintendent to the classified staff, everyone was on board and helping. The games went seamless, and at the end of the day, because of you Kellogg, we showed what is possible. We showed our kids that we can do anything if we are together, and we showed the state the “Can-Do” attitude we have always had. I am so appreciative to all of you Kellogg, and I am so proud to be one of you. GO WILDCATS!! Sincerely, Scott Miller Director of Activities KSD #391
