Welcome back KMS Wildcats!

I am so excited to be joining Kellogg Middle School this year as the principal. Let me take a moment to introduce myself. My name is Brad Harmon, and I am a North Idaho native. I was born and raised on the other side of the hill in Post Falls. I attended school K-12 in the Post Falls School District, and then went to NIC and U of I Coeur d’ Alene. Outside of a three month stint of time where I attended Eastern Oregon University, I have lived in North Idaho.

As an educator, I have spent the majority of my career in middle school. I taught middle school for seven years, having taught ELA, math, social studies, science, PE, and multiple electives during that time. I was an alternative high school principal, a middle school vice-principal, a middle school principal, and an elementary principal. I can say without hesitation that middle school is the toughest time in a child’s life, and I look forward to working with the students to make their year a successful one.

Middle school students are going through difficult transitions. They are developing friend groups that will drive their decision making. They are beginning to push away from parents, attempting to establish their own independence, and they are dealing with puberty. All of this is happening while they are still trying to develop and grow their brains. Because of this, it is important that we have boundaries and expectations set up for the students.

We all make mistakes, and middle school students are no different. However, it is important that middle school students also learn that there are consequences for mistakes. As the principal, it is my responsibility to hold students accountable for their actions. We will celebrate the positives, and we will be consistent when consequences occur. I always move forward, and I encourage the students to do the same, knowing that tomorrow will be a new opportunity to make different choices.

I look forward to working with each and every one of you. My door is truly always open, and if you have a question, please feel free to contact me. We have such an amazing opportunity to help shape the lives of our students, and by working together, we can make a big difference.

Sincerely,

Brad Harmon
