Dear Students and Parents,

The KMS Counseling Office will still be available for you over the school closure period. I can be reached at lisa.cheney@kelloggschools.org and will be checking emails throughout the day. If you have concerns that are difficult to address in an email, I am happy to set up an appointment to do a video meeting via Google hangouts.

I know the uncertainty of our current situation can create anxiety and panic. Please let us help in this area. Our wish for you and your family is that you remain safe and healthy during this time and take this as an opportunity to connect with one another and enjoy some quality time as a family.

If you have a crisis during this time period, please contact the Shoshone County Crisis Response Center at 208-556-0500 or 9-1-1 in an emergency situation. Both agencies are staffed at all times and can get you the help you need.

Please feel free to contact me with questions or concerns during this time.

Warm wishes,

Lisa Cheney, KMS Counselor

In order for us to receive a waiver from the State and not make up the missed time during this summer, we must continue to offer education to our students during the closure.

IF YOUR KMS STUDENT WAS ABSENT TODAY and did not receive their academic resources packet, it is very important that your child receive their work. Please come pick up your child's work TODAY between 3:30 and 4:30 p.m. or tomorrow (Wednesday 3.18) between the hours of 7:30 and 9:30 a.m. It is impossible for you to stop by KMS during these times, please call the KMS office 208.784.1311 as soon as possible and we can discuss what other options there might be. We thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

All KSD Schools will be closed March 18-April 6

Please follow KMS or KSD 391 websites for updated information in the days to come.

Monday March 16, 2020

The following information will be emailed to parents and guardians of KMS students this evening 3.16.20 at 7:45 p.m. If you did not receive the information via email, please contact KMS during office hours to update your contact information:

In light of current conditions, we are reaching out with some important information regarding the school closure for KMS beginning Wednesday, March 18th.

If parents are comfortable sending their children to school tomorrow, Tuesday, March 17th, please have your student attend school as teachers will be communicating to them information on their academic expectations as well as meal services that will be provided during the closure.

Please remind your students that this closure is not a typical “snow day”. KMS teachers are working hard to provide academic support and lessons for your child to do at home during this closure and students will be expected to complete these assignments. There will be a variety of ways these lessons will be provided to include physical paper packets as well as additional online options.

If your family has internet access at home but your student does not have access to a computer, there is an option for them to check out a chromebook and charger. Students were given a chromebook checkout sheet at the end of the day today (the form can be found at the bottom of this message) . In order to check out a chromebook, they MUST bring back a signed (by both you and your student) checkout sheet. If your student does not have internet access at home, they will be given a physical assignment packet from their teachers that they will be expected to turn in upon resumption of school.

Communication between parents, students, and teachers is of utmost priority during this time. Please check your email regularly and please have your student check their school email regularly. Teachers will be communicating with both parents and teachers with valuable information. You are also welcome to contact your child’s teachers with questions about their lessons and expectations. Our KMS website staff page (kms.kelloggschools.org) will be updated shortly and there you will be able to find email addresses for your children’s teachers.

Please check the KMS website (kms.kelloggschools.org) and the Kellogg Middle School Facebook page regularly for updates and information as it becomes available. We will also be utilizing our School Messenger system with email and/or telephone calls when school-wide communication is necessary.

We appreciate your patience, understanding, and cooperation during this unusual time. Please reach out if you have any questions or concerns.
